Fordite Collection

Fordite, aka Detroit agate or Motor Agate, is pre-1985 automobile paint which has hardened sufficiently to be cut and polished. It was formed by the now extinct practice of hand spray-painting multiples of production car bodies in large automotive factories. The over-sprayed paint in the painting bays gradually built up on the tracks and skids that the car bodies were moved on. Over time, many colorful layers built up there. These layers were hardened repeatedly in the ovens that the car bodies went into to cure the paint. Some of these deeper layers were even baked 100 times!!

Eventually, the paint build-up would become obstructing, or too thick and heavy, and had to be removed. Some auto workers, entranced by the beauty of this material, took home chunks home in their dinner buckets. Today, we bring you our newest Fordite Collection by recycling this rare material into beautiful knives! Each one is unique, no two are the same!

Anodized

Titanium anodizing is a process used to increase the durability and corrosion resistance of titanium components. It also provides a range of color options to make the components more aesthetically pleasing.

The process involves passing an electric current through a titanium component in an electrolyte solution, which causes a thin oxide layer to form on the surface of the metal. This oxide layer is what gives titanium anodizing its improved properties and color options.

Steel Type

The blade steel type is high alloy stainless Damascus steel. Since this is a solid high quality steel type there is no need for harder core steel. Core steel is required in most industrially manufactured Damascus blades. Instead, this blade is precision CNC full flat grind from a solid bar of beautiful high alloy Damascus steel.
The two steel types that make up the Small Rose Pattern of the blade are 440C and N690 high alloy.
